‘Un Homme Libre’ A Free Man

In July 2024, Hexwave Media had the privilege of collaborating with Wood Buffalo Economic Development on an exciting film production project in our region. Our journey began with an extensive location scouting mission led by Jason Kay, the Locations Manager from Imperial Crescent Pictures. Over the course of two days, we explored a wide range of sites, from Camp Yogi in Anzac, Alberta, to Suncor’s Aurora camp north of Fort McKay, ensuring that the film crew would have the perfect backdrops for their scenes.

Once the scouting was complete, we shifted gears to prepare a comprehensive film works package. This essential resource was designed to be a go-to guide for the production team, providing crucial information such as local catering services, background actor contacts, and government connections for permits and licenses.

In August, when the film crew arrived, I was brought on board to facilitate their local needs. My role expanded to include coordinating everything from car rentals to sourcing specialized tools. Additionally, I was hired as the 3rd Assistant Director (AD), a position that allowed me to play a pivotal role in managing over 40 background extras, ensuring seamless ambience and continuity across scenes.

This experience was truly unforgettable, and it reinforced my passion for the film industry. I’m eager to leverage this experience to open more doors in the future.
